EnvironMentors

"Mentoring is about helping young people to realise their potential through identifying their strengths and talents, rather than rescuing, 'fixing up' or changing a young person".  Stride program mentor

Our EnvironMentors programs provide opportunities for disengaged young people to experience the benefits of having a supportive mentor while undertaking conservation and environmental activities in their community. The overall aim of the project is to increase community and social connection and build self esteem and resilience with mentors fostering life-skills with the young people such as goal-setting, communication and teamwork.   Environmental activities within the program include canoeing, native animal breeding, sand rejuvenation and planting projects.

The program works closely with local schools and council groups an in partnership with Conservation Volunteers Australia, to provide an interesting and alternative learning path for the young people taking part.  Skills gained through the project support the young person's education and emotional development and instil a sense of responsibility for their local environment and the wider environment.

EnvironMentors programs are currently running in Lara and Geelong, Victoria.
