Sports mentoring aims to promote healthy youth development by using sport as a springboard for engagement - increasing young people's connection to their community, school and peers in remote rural townships of Australia. We provide disadvantaged and disengaged young people with the opportunity to develop healthy relationships and engage in activities which have a valued outcome for themselves and their community.
The program works by training locally identified adult role models who are active in sports within the community to undertake one-to-one mentoring of a disconnected and disadvantaged young person.
'...I am more at school now than when the program began. Not sure when the change happened but know it has. I want to get a 'good job' so I'll now aim to stay at school.' -Year 8 student
