Communicate uses drama to
develop social and interpersonal skills for connecting
people to their world. In an environment conducive to
reflection, participants are able to remove themselves
from their own life experiences, create a deeper understanding
of other people’s perspectives
and develop empathy for those around them.
This is available as a student training program or a
teachers resource pack.
Through fun and interactive dramatic scenes individuals
and/or groups explore their ideas, attitudes and possible
consequences to various given scenes.
Drama, a major and effective learning tool for teaching
life skills, allows students to explore their responses
to various situations while observing those of others.
Connecting young people to their world empowers them
to express their thoughts and feelings while challenging
their prejudices, stereotypes and destructive behaviours.
By using drama students become more confident about themselves
and personal resilience is achieved through:
• Positive reinforcement
• Realistic scenarios
• Creating a safe environment where risk taking is encouraged
and acceptable.
Communicate supports all Values Education Curricula
and is a perfect example of using drama to teach life
skills in any classroom subject.
