Cyber Savvy

A cyber-bullying prevention program

Cyber S@vvy is a cyber bullying prevention program for schools that provides students with skills and knowledge to help them deal with issues related to cyber bullying.  Cyber bullying is when one student is targeted by another through the use of digital technology, mobile communication devices or through the internet.  The aim of this targeting may be harassment, stalking, threats or other forms of offensive behaviour.

USING INTERACTIVE ACTIVITES AND DISCUSSIONS CYBER S@VVY ENGAGES AND ENCOURAGES STUDENTS TO:

  • Develop a clear understanding about what cyber bullying is
  • What to do if they or someone they know is being cyber bullied
  • Understand the effects of cyber bullying
  • Be aware of their own digital footprint
  • Know the legal and social penalties of being a cyber bully
  • When, how and why serious issues need to be passed on

The cyber workshop is organised into five specific sections.  Each area focuses on a key aspect of cyber bullying and comprises of an activity and debriefing time.  This encourages students ot see a progression from one activity to the next and to develop a sense of clarity regarding the direction of activities.

THE FIVE KEY AREAS INCLUDE:

  • An overall understanding of cyber bullying and information technology
  • Fostering empathy
  • Informing about digital footprints
  • Highlighting legal penalties
  • Knowing when to refer serious issues to an adult
