Leadership

The Stride Leadership workshop is designed for school leadership groups including School Captains, Vice Captains, SRC Representatives and specific interest leaders.  The program works directly with the students teaching them positive leadership skills to assist them in their leadership role.  Stride offers a Leadership workshop for secondary and primary students tailored to the different requirements of student leaders, but with the same outcome: to build a positive culture amongst the leadership group and the wider school community.

HOW THE LEADERSHIP PROGRAM WORKS:

Qualified Stride facilitators work directly with your student leaders in a one day training workshop.  Students are taken through a process which helps to identify the culture and ethos they wish to develop.  Plans and goals of the leadership group are developed on a consensual basis so consistency of the leadership style and group development can be achieved.

The workshop also focuses on the different aspects of being a leader, including what leaders do, the characteristics of effective leaders, the key components of efective leadership, effective brainstorming and how to successfully work together as part of a leadership team.

By the end of the workshop, students will have an understanding of the planning process and will have been supported to complete a number of program plans specific to their roles, all of which are linked to their identified leadership culture.  Handbooks given to students and teachers during the workshop, assist in developing a positive leadership program at their school.

ABOUT THE TRAINING:

The one-day workshops include the following:

Thinking about:  What does it mean to be a leader | what is it that leaders do | what are the characteristics of a positive leader.

Learning about:  Effective skills for leadership | active listening | assertion not aggression | keys to public speaking | how to brainstorm.

Creating together: Solutions for problems | campaigns.

Organising:  Their own meetings | creating and activating action plans.

Developing:  planing ideas and strategies for the year ahead.

WHAT STUDENTS SAY ABOUT STRIDE'S LEADERSHIP WORKSHOPS:

Past students have spoken of their excitement at being able to develop a leadership culture for their own school and greately valued being involved in a team which is able to make a clear difference in their school community.  Leading for the whole school and not just the group, is one of the commonly reported learning outcomes.
