Stride
Foundation was formed in 2006 from the merger of three
small charities all with a
strong history of helping children and running positive,
preventative programs
to empower children and youth.
The organisations were:
Peer Support Foundation Victoria, Connecting
Kids Company and Bounce Back Foundation. In 2008 Stride Foundation also merged with another youth charity, Yellow Ribbon Foundation.
Peer Support Foundation
and Connecting Kids Company
Peer Support Foundation grew from a tragic circumstance,
when a young 12 year old boy committed suicide in
his first year of secondary school. It was concerning to his school communithy to think that he had no-one looking out
for him and it was realised that if other students
could be encouraged to take responsibility for reaching
out in friendship and letting adults know when a
fellow student was troubled, this could prevent situations
becoming so desperate. Thus, the simple concept of
training older students to look out for younger students – peers
helping each other - was born.
Peer Support Foundation Victoria was an established leader in the fields of health and wellbeing and preventative programs for young people in schools across Victoria, Tasmania and Western Australia. The organisation was at the forefront of developing programs for young people with the young people and schools, working closely to develop programs that are relevant to youth, teachers and the school curriculum.
Bounce Back Foundation
The Bounce Back Foundation was a not-for-profit organisation that over the last four years has delivered a range of leadership and mentoring programs to young people in schools, indigenous communities, juvenile justice centres and sporting organisations throughout Australia. These programs have developed in partnership with specialty health agencies, in particular BeyondBlue: the national depression initiative. Bounce Back Foundation was recognised as Australia's largest provider of community programs utilising role models.
Yellow Ribbon Foundation The Yellow Ribbon program is designed by young people for the benefit of young people. It is a help seeking/peer support program, with a very simple aim: to prevent youth suicide. To do this the program aims to create an environment which encourages and empowers young people to ask for help in a time of need.Yellow Ribbon program aligns closely with the youth wellbeing work of Stride Foundation, especially our programs to prevent youth suicide and depression. The work of the Yellow Ribbon program is continued by Stride Foundation through its alignment with our Supportive Friends and Fantastic Friends programs.Stride Foudation, is now in our 21st year, we are proud
