Strengthening Communities Project:
Building stronger communities for young people through mentoring and leadership programs
Stride runs our Strengthening Communities to promote the health of young people and their communities. We work with community mentors who in turn mentor young people aged between 13 and 15 years who are disconnected from education and employment.
Through involvement in the program, the young people have become more noticeably engaged in school and community based activities, they have formed positive relationship skills and the rate of school absenteeism has dropped significantly. The mentors have embraced the project with enthusiasm and experienced mutual gains.
‘After meeting ‘A’ last night and seeing his potential I’m really excited about the time we will get to spend together and the possible gains we will both get out of it!’ – Community mentor
Stride Foundation is currently running the Strengthening Communities project in Colac, Victoria incorporating the communities of Colac and Lavers Hill.
